Travel
Please see below for a list of option of how to get to Meribel.
DRIVING
Driving to Meribel is fairly easy but can be quite time consuming, depending on where in the UK you set off from. If you do decide to drive out, please remember to bring chains for your car, as you never know when you might get a big snowfall and in addition it is a legal requirement here that you must have chains in your car.
To cross the channel with your car, please look at the following websites for times and prices www.eurotunnel.com, www.directferries.co.uk.
TRAIN
For Sunday morning arrival it is possible to take a eurostar train Saturday evening to Paris Gare de Lyon and change there to an overnight TGV (fast train) departing Paris Gare de Nord. This does mean changing station at Paris but the 2 stations are connected by a direct underground line (RER, Line D) and the journey takes about 20 minutes but it is advised that you give yourself 1½ hours between arriving at Gare de Lyon and departure from Gare du Nord. To get times and prices, look at www.raileurope.co.uk or contact them on 08705 848 848.
FLYING
There are 4 airports serving Meribel:
1.Chambery – the closest at about 1 hour drive but it can suffer a bit from bad weather conditions, which can mean that it gets closed down and your flight gets either cancelled or redirected. Otherwise this is a good airport for quick access to the resort.
2.Grenoble – About 1.5 hours drive away. A good airport for flight connections, transfers and hire car access.
3.Geneva – About 2 hours drive away. A good airport for flight connections, transfers and bus links. If you plan to hire a car, make sure you bring a good map as the route to Meribel is not the easiest to find, for advice, please contact us.
4.Lyon St Exupery – Also about 2 hours drive away but on motorway most of the way, so much easier if you are planning on hiring a car. Not as good as Geneva for transfers or bus link but it is still doable.
There are several airlines that fly to these airports, please look at some of these websites for flights, www.easyjet.com, www.ryanair.com, www.flybe.com, www.jet2.com, www.britishairways.com, www.airlingus.com and www.flyglobespan.com.
TRANSFERS
If you are flying to any of the above airports, we are happy to help you organise transfers to the chalet. We use a private transfer company for transfers for whole groups at competitive prices. If your group is coming separately and only some of you need a transfer, we would recommend a shared transfer with ATS, which can be booked on www.A-T-S.net
HIRE CAR
There are a number of hire car companies operating at each airport, so it would probably be a good idea to shop around for prices. We have found that www.holidayautos.co.uk usually have good prices but of course there is also www.avis.co.uk and www.hertz.co.uk. If you hire a car, please make sure you ask to have chains in the boot, as you never know when there will be a dump of snow and also it is a legal requirement at this height to have chains in the boot.
